Valentines in Ewa Beach

A couple dining at the beach, surrounded by lit candles placed in a heart shape in the sand

January is almost over and, with that, in a few weeks is Valentine’s Day. This is the day of love, where we show to that special someone what they mean in your life. That being said, you want to make this day extra special but aren’t sure how to go about that. What should you do? Should you go have a picnic on the beach and watch the sun set? Or what about going to the movie theatre to watch a romantic movie? If you are scratching your head, wondering what to plan, read on and learn some suggestions (plus, find out why you need to consider apartments in Honolulu).

1. Go to that Romantic Restaurant

Yes, this may be cliché but it is cliché for a reason. Who doesn’t love eating out a nice restaurant to celebrate love? Why not get over the cliché and book that reservation. If you are in the Honolulu area, you may want to try restaurants like Orchids, Hau Tree Lanai, Beachhouse at the Moana, and House Without a Key. All of these have beautiful, romantic settings. And, while they are on the pricier side, will be sure to make your loved one smile.

Who Is This Best For?

If you and your partners are foodies or are always on the go, a romantic restaurant is perfect for your Valentine’s Day. Simply taking a moment to stop and breathe will make the day so much more enjoyable—and, you get to try a new meal.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Grab Some Dessert After Dinner

After you enjoy wining and dining at that romantic restaurant, stop by the bakery or—better yet—the local shaved ice joint to satisfy that sweet tooth. While you can always have dessert at the restaurant, it is sometimes nice to get up and walk around while eating that treat.

Who Is This Best For?

This is for the couple who might like romantic restaurants but want also want to stretch and explore the area. A dessert on the go is the perfect excuse to tackle both.

3. Have a Picnic on The Beach

Hawaii is known to have some of the most beautiful beaches. Being that you are Honolulu, why not take advantage of your natural surroundings? Either take food to go (or make your own) and spread a blanket and some beach towels out on the sand for a good old fashion picnic on the beach. You can have one in the early morning when the sun is just rising or why not watch the setting sun in the evening. Some beaches you may want to check out include Ala Moana Regional Park, Kuhio Beach, and Kahanamoku Beach, to name a few.

Who Is This Best For?

If you and your partner enjoy the simple things in life, you are sure to love pulling out and laying a towel on the beach and watching the setting sun. As a bonus, why not bring some tea to sip on while you cuddle up and watch the waves rolling in.

4. Snorkel or Surf

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a day where all you do is wine and dine. Why not celebrate it by snorkeling in Hanauma Bay or Queens Beach? (If you do decide to do this, we recommend that you get there early to avoid the crowds.) And, as far as surfing goes, any local beach will do.

Who Is This Best For?

Snorkeling and/or surfing is a great way for the adventure-seeking couples who, while enjoy wining and dining, would much rather be out in nature or in the ocean.

5. See a Romantic Movie at the Theatre

Watching a romantic movie at the theatre is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day with the one you love and cherish. Why not go to Consolidated Theatres Koko Marina, Consolidated Theatres Kahala, or Consolidated Theatres Ward with TITAN LUXE?

Enjoy snacking on some popcorn and sipping that soda while watching “Forever My Girl.” If you and your partner don’t particularly like romantic moveis, choose another movie genre— as far as horror goes, “Insidious: The Last Key” may be your best bet or “Coco” if you want a to watch an animated, feel-good movie.

Who Is This Best For?

Seeing a romantic movie in the theatres is great for those who don’t ever get a chance to see movies, let alone watch them with the one they love most. It is also great for new couples who may not feel comfortable making a big romantic gesture.

Final Thoughts: Make the Most of Valentine’s Day

Take advantage of Valentine’s Day to show that special one you love and care about them. For an extra dose of appreciation, be sure to not only enjoy some type of outing but also give him or her a hand written, personal card and a gift (large or small). Remember, it’s the simple things in life that matter most.
