First, let’s get the boring details out of the way. The event starts at 8AM at the Kapilina Beach Homes on Ewa Beach in Oahu. Check in starts at 7AM, so be sure to get there early to get ready. You’ll need to pick up your packet the day before the race as well, so make sure you’re out there and able to get everything you need if you’re going to be a participant. Now, onto those entry fees.

If you managed to register before October 1st, you already know you only had to pay $20.00 to sign up. You can still register before December 15th, however, at a cost of $35.00. That’s just for normal individual entries, of course, Youth members, high schoolers, military, seniors, and college kids get a discount. Check the registration page for more details.

If you want to volunteer for the event, you’re welcome to do so. Just drop a line on the registration page:

OK, So What About The Actual Run?

Now, onto the fun stuff. What is the Fun Run, exactly? That answer we can glean from the event’s Facebook Page:

“The Santa 5K Fun RUN is a holiday experience like none other on Oahu! This run will take place in the Kapilina Beach Homes Community featuring a scenic 5K non-timed run. Then stick around and check out the Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, then top it all off and take family pictures with Santa! It's Fun for the whole family!”

And there you go. Show up, run around, then bask in the glory of the shopping experience. You’ll get to buy some items to round out your gift buying, and even get some photographs with the big guy, Santa Claus, to make the event even more memorable. As a fun extra, they’ve even got a T-Shirt contest going on in which the participant with the most “Christmasy Decorated” attire will win a “cool prize.” What could be better than that?

The Run Isn’t Enough. I Need More!

Ok, maybe you need a bit more holiday cheer? Kapilina provides, as on one of the preceding weekends, the Kapilina Christmas Candyland Parade. This event, going down December 8th, is going to be the number one spot for kid-friendliness:

“'Tis the season for our Annual Christmas Parade and this year's theme is CANDYLAND! The parade is on December 8 and will start at 5 p.m. in the townhomes neighborhood. From there, the parade will travel all throughout the community, with special guests, Santa and Mrs. Claus.”

The floats are decorated in spectacular fashion by the local clubs and community staff, and will provide no end of delight for those in attendance. Get a heads-up on the parade route by checking out the parade map here. As you can see, it rolls throughout the entire community, taking a turn past the splash park, lagoon, the marina, the beach park, and ending up near the mini mart and gas station.

If you still need more to do after that, you can check out Hawaii News to see the list of all the amazing stuff going on across Oahu during the holiday season. There are parades, parties, and much more that are sure to make you excited. What sort of things are you interested in? You might want to kick off the Christmas season with the Honolulu City Lights happening on December 2nd:

“This year’s opening night festivities will feature the unveiling of 56 new animal-themed ornaments adorning the city’s 50-foot holiday tree. The original designs were inspired by the whimsical look of the official 2017 Friends of Honolulu City Lights ornaments, which celebrate the Honolulu Zoo.”

The event will include a holiday concert, a light parade, a visit from Santa, movie screenings, and even a toys for tots collection to help the needy. After the lighting ceremony is done, that doesn’t mean that the fun is over, though. There are plenty of commemorative bits of clothing and ornaments you can get, and you can even tour the lights in grand fashion. According to Thrillist, a trolley ride will provide the optimal view you’re looking for:

“Gather some friends and hop aboard an open-air trolley for a breezy and unobstructed tour of the city’s festive light display. Caroling is optional. Note that the trolley doesn't run on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.”

If you want check out a concert during the holiday season, put on by some of Oahu’s young performers, you can head to the 57th Annual Holiday Choral Concert, put on by the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus:

“Featuring 120 singers in 9 ensembles. Hawaii’s most advanced and longest running community youth choir. Performing holiday music from Hawaii, favorite holiday tunes and music for the season from around the world. Free concert. Free will offering will be taken.”
